Josie Gallagher was an Irish hurler who lived from 1923 until September 1998. He played hurling with his local club Gort and with the Galway senior inter-county team from 1942 until 1954. He played his club hurling with the Gort club but enjoyed little success there, as his playing days coincided with a downturn in the club's fortunes. He is identified here as the Gort hurler of the 1940s and 1950s to tell him apart from other people of the same name.
