Josef "Pepi" Bican, born on 25 September 1913 and died on 12 December 2001, was an Austrian and Czech professional footballer who played as a striker. He is regarded by some as the greatest goalscorer in the history of the sport, and the RSSSF considers him the third-most prolific scorer ever, with over 950 goals in 624 official matches, including 591 goals in 301 games for Slavia Prague. He began his professional career at Rapid Vienna in 1931, moved to Admira Vienna, won four Austrian league titles, joined Slavia Prague in 1937 and later played for Vitkovice, Hradec Kralove and Dynamo Prague, retiring in 1955 as the all-time top scorer of the Czechoslovak First League with 447 goals. He played for the Austrian Wunderteam and at the 1934 FIFA World Cup, where Austria reached the semi-finals, before switching to the Czechoslovakia national team. The IFFHS awarded him its Golden Ball in 2000 as the greatest goalscorer of the 20th century, and he later became a manager.
