James Mulroy, born on 1 August 1940 and died on 12 February 2013, was an Irish Gaelic footballer, manager and politician. He played as a right wing-forward for the Louth senior football team and captained the side for several years during the Sixties. He made his first appearance for Louth in the 1959 championship and was a regular in the starting fifteen until he retired after the 1972 championship, taking part in the county's run to the 1960 Leinster Senior Football Championship final, lost by one point to Offaly. Leinster picked him at right half-back for the 1964 Railway Cup final against Ulster, and he appeared in a second inter-provincial final against Munster in 1972. He won nine county championship medals with Newtown Blues, then coached and managed, including two spells as Louth manager and success with Drogheda side Oliver Plunketts, and was also well known in political circles.
