Jarmila Kratochvílová

Jarmila Kratochvílová, born on 26 January 1951 in Golčův Jeníkov, is a Czechoslovak former track and field athlete. She won the silver medal in the 400 metres at the 1980 Olympics. In 1983 she set the world record for the 800 metres, which still stands and is currently the longest-standing world record in athletics. At the 1983 World Athletics Championships she won both the 400 metres and the 800 metres, setting a world record in the 400 metres that stood for two years, and also took silver in the 4 x 400 metres relay. She also competed indoors, setting a world indoor record of 49.59 seconds in the 400 metres in 1982, a mark that stood until 2023.
