James McGarry, formally James Bernard McGarry, is an Irish former hurler, born in November 1971 in Bennettsbridge in County Kilkenny, who played as a goalkeeper at senior level for the Kilkenny county team, and is identified here as the hurler to tell him apart from other people of the same name. He first played competitive hurling at Kilkenny CBS, arrived on the inter-county scene at twenty-one with the Kilkenny junior team and joined the senior team for the 1997 championship. He went on to play a key part for Kilkenny for over a decade and won five All-Ireland medals, seven Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals, finishing as an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. He also won three Railway Cup medals with the Leinster inter-provincial team.
