Jake Brown (skateboarder)

Action Sports

Jake Brown is an Australian skateboarder who specialises in transition skateboarding, born on 6 September 1974. He began competing in 1996 and regularly appears in the X Games contest events. He has skated the MegaRamp, on which he was, as of September 2013, the first person to perform a 720-degree rotation without grabbing his board. In 2007 he lost control of his board at the X Games and fell from a height of 14 metres, sustaining severe injuries in what is considered one of the most infamous wipeouts in extreme sports history, yet he recovered, won gold at the same event in 2009 and defended the title in 2010. After his parents divorced he lived in Sydney with his mother until twelve and then his father until sixteen, before moving to Melbourne to skate more, and Danny Way, who invented the MegaRamp, encouraged him on an Australian tour in the mid-1990s to relocate to the United States.
