John G. Trice, known as Jack Trice, was an American college football player who lived from May 12, 1902 to October 8, 1923. He became the first African-American athlete for Iowa State College. He died young, from injuries he suffered during a game against the University of Minnesota on October 6, 1923, two days before his death. His name lives on in the football stadium of Iowa State, which is called Jack Trice Stadium in his honor. He is recorded here as an American football player because the lead describes him as a college football player at Iowa State College, whose football program is played under American rules. The lead does not give his position or his statistics.
