Inge de Bruijn

Inge de Bruijn is a Dutch former competitive swimmer, born August 24, 1973, in Barendrecht, Netherlands, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly sprint events. She won four gold, two silver and two bronze Olympic medals, with her golds coming in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter butterfly at the 2000 Sydney Games and the 50 meter freestyle at the 2004 Athens Games. She won five gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships in long course sprint freestyle and butterfly events, was named Female World Swimmer of the Year in both 2000 and 2001 by Swimming World magazine, and held multiple world records in the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle and butterfly. She became the oldest individual champion in Olympic swimming history when she won gold at age 30 in 2004, and retired from competitive swimming in 2007.
