Imrich Bugar was a Czech discus thrower of Slovak-Hungarian origin, born on 14 April 1955 near Dunajska Streda in Czechoslovakia. He represented Czechoslovakia and then the Czech Republic, and for many years competed for the club Dukla Prague. His career highlights include an Olympic silver medal from 1980, a European Championship title from 1982 and a gold medal at the inaugural World Championships in 1983. He was named Sportsperson of the Year in Czechoslovakia in 1982 and was national champion many times. His personal best throw of 71.26 metres, set in San Jose in 1985, remains the Czech record and places him among the top performers in the all-time list. He died on 8 April 2026.
