Hugo Koblet, born on 21 March 1925 and died on 6 November 1964, was a Swiss champion cyclist from Zurich who raced on both the road and the track. He won the Giro d'Italia in 1950, the first non-Italian to do so, and the 1951 Tour de France, taking five stages on the way, including a long solo win between Brive and Agen. In 1951 he also beat Fausto Coppi in the Grand Prix des Nations time trial. On the track he was Swiss pursuit champion every year from 1947 to 1954 and competed in six-day races, and he won 70 races as a professional. He died in a car accident amid speculation that he had committed suicide.
