Hu Ronghua is a Chinese xiangqi, or Chinese chess, grandmaster born 1945 in Shanghai, honored by fans and commentators as one of the Xiangqi Saints for his sustained dominance of the game across the second half of the twentieth century. He won the Chinese National Xiangqi Championship many times beginning in the 1960s and remained a top competitive force into the 1980s and beyond, helping raise the profile of organized xiangqi competition in mainland China during a period when the game's modern championship structure was still developing.
