John Franklin "Home Run" Baker was an American major league baseball third baseman, born on 13 March 1886 in Trappe, Maryland, who died on 28 June 1963. He broke in with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in 1908 and earned his nickname in the 1911 World Series, when he hit game-winning home runs off Rube Marquard and Christy Mathewson. He led the American League in home runs for four seasons and in runs batted in during 1912 and 1913, and finished a thirteen-season career with a .307 batting average, 96 home runs and three World Championships. After a 1915 holdout he played for the New York Yankees from 1916 to 1919 and again in 1921 and 1922. The National Baseball Hall of Fame elected him in 1955.
