Holger Geschwindner is a German basketball player and coach, born on 9 December 1945 in Bad Nauheim, who competed as a point guard for the West German national team at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. West Germany lost its classification match for places 9 to 12 against Australia by one point, 70-69, and also lost the 11th place match against Spain by one point, 84-83, finishing 12th. He earned 85 international caps and played domestically for MTV Giessen, USC Munchen, 1. FC Bamberg, SSC Gottingen and BSC Saturn Koln, winning West German championships with Giessen and Gottingen. He studied mathematics and physics and worked at the computer centre of the Max Planck Institute. He became widely known as the personal coach, mentor and manager of the professional player Dirk Nowitzki.
