Henry Maske

Henry Maske, born on 6 January 1964 in Treuenbrietzen in the Potsdam district, is a German former professional boxer and one of Germany's most popular sports figures. As an amateur he boxed for East Germany, won the Olympic middleweight gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Games, took the 1989 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Moscow and won silver at the 1986 world championships in Reno. He was a five-time East German champion. After German reunification in 1990 he turned professional and won the IBF light heavyweight title on 20 March 1993, defending it ten times before retiring in 1996 after a split decision loss to Virgil Hill. After eleven years away he came back on 31 March 2007 in Munich and beat Hill by unanimous decision in a rematch. He later worked as a boxing commentator for ARD and played the lead role in the 2010 film Max Schmeling.
