Nils Gunnar Nordahl, who lived from 19 October 1921 to 15 September 1995, was a Swedish professional footballer and a highly prolific, powerful and physically strong striker. He is best known for his spell at AC Milan from 1949 to 1956, where he won the scudetto twice and took an unprecedented five top scorer awards in the Italian championship, more than any other player. He is Milan's all time record goalscorer and holds the record for goals per appearance in Italy. His Italian nicknames included Il Cannoniere, Il Pompiere and Il Bisonte. For the Swedish national team he won 33 caps and scored 43 goals between 1942 and 1948, and at the 1948 Summer Olympics he was joint top scorer as Sweden won gold. He is the father of former footballer Thomas Nordahl.
