Gukesh Dommaraju, commonly known as D Gukesh, is an Indian chess grandmaster born May 29, 2006, in Chennai. In 2024 he won the Candidates Tournament and then defeated defending champion Ding Liren in the World Chess Championship match, becoming the youngest ever undisputed World Chess Champion at 18 years old, surpassing the previous record held by Garry Kasparov. His rapid rise made him one of the youngest players ever to cross a 2750 FIDE rating and a leading figure in a new generation of Indian chess talent.
