Givi Dmitriyevich Chokheli was a Georgian football defender, born on 27 June 1937 in Telavi and died on 25 February 1994 in Tbilisi. He played most of his career for Dinamo Tbilisi, and after he stopped playing he held various coaching positions there, serving as head coach in 1969 to 1970 and in 1974. He was classified as a Master of Sport of the USSR in 1959. He won 19 caps for the Soviet Union national team and took part in the 1962 FIFA World Cup and in the 1960 UEFA European Football Championship, which the Soviet Union won. In the early 1960s the Soviet back line was anchored by the trio of Chokheli, Anatoli Maslyonkin and Anatoly Krutikov. A statue of Chokheli stands in front of the Municipal Stadium in his home town of Telavi.
