Football Codes

Gerry O'Neill, born in Middletown, County Armagh, in 1927 and died on 3 August 2010, was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Armagh county team. He first played competitive Gaelic football at St Patrick's Grammar School in Armagh, where he won back-to-back MacRory Cup medals and then a Hogan Cup medal in 1946, and at club level he had a lengthy career with Middletown. He made his first impression on the inter-county scene as a member of the Armagh junior team, winning an Ulster medal in that grade in 1948 although an All-Ireland title eluded the team. He later joined the Armagh senior team and won his first Ulster medal in 1950 and a second in 1953, ending that year as an All-Ireland runner-up.
