Winter Sports

Georg Hackl is a German former luger born September 9, 1966, in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in the sport's history. He won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in men's singles luge, at the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Winter Games, plus silver medals in 1988 and 2002, becoming the first Winter Olympian to win a medal in five consecutive Winter Olympics. At the 1998 Nagano Games he posted the fastest time in all four runs, the first slider to do so in Olympic history, and across his career he won 22 medals at the FIL World Luge Championships before retiring from competition in 2006 and moving into coaching elite German lugers.
