Gennady Moiseyev

Motorsport

Gennady Anatolyevich Moiseyev was a Russian Grand Prix motocross racer, born on February 3, 1948, who died on July 23, 2017. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1967 to 1982 and rode KTM motorcycles to three FIM 250cc Motocross World Championships, in 1974, 1977 and 1978. He was the most accomplished Russian motocross racer of the 1970s, although his 1974 championship was clouded by controversy over the blocking and rough riding tactics the Soviet team used to help him secure it. He later served as President of the Russian Motorcycle Federation. Born in the Gatchinsky District of the Leningrad Oblast, he decided to take up motocross after seeing the 1964 world championship round in Leningrad and made his world championship debut in 1967 at the 250cc Russian Grand Prix in Belgorod on a CZ.
