Gastón Malacalza is a professional padel player born in La Plata in 1974, who played his last tournament at the end of 2015. He began at 16 in the beginner category with his brother Adrián and turned professional in 1993. In November 1994 a serious motorcycle accident left him in a coma for twelve hours and made him leave padel entirely, but he returned in March 1995 and was again among the world's top 30. He was Argentine number one in 2001 and 2002, moved to Madrid in 2003, and in 2007 reached number three with Maxi Grabiel. In 2016 the World Padel Tour honoured him at the Las Rozas Open.
