Gabriel Omar Batistuta, born on 1 February 1969, is an Argentine former professional footballer, a striker nicknamed Batigol and also called El Angel Gabriel. He is regarded as one of the best strikers of all time, and Pelé named him in the FIFA 100 list of the greatest living players in 2004. He began in Argentina in 1988 with Newell's Old Boys and later won titles with River Plate and Boca Juniors, then played most of his club career with Fiorentina in Italy, where he remains the club's all-time top scorer in Serie A with 151 goals. He stayed with Fiorentina when it was relegated in 1993, helped it return a year later, and fans erected a bronze statue of him in 1996. He moved to Roma in 2000 for 36 million euros and won the 2000-01 Serie A title, had a brief loan with Inter Milan in 2003, and finished his career in Qatar with Al-Arabi in 2005. For Argentina he scored 56 goals in 78 official matches, played in three World Cups, and won the Copa America in 1991 and 1993.
