Fan Hui

Fan Hui is a Chinese-born French professional Go player born in 1981 in Xian who turned professional in 1996 and holds the 2 dan rank. He won the European Go Championship in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and the European Professional Go Championship in 2016, and became coach of the French national Go team in 2005 after relocating to France in 2000. In October 2015 he lost 5 to 0 to Google DeepMind's AlphaGo program, the first time an artificial intelligence had beaten a human professional Go player without a handicap, and he later joined the AlphaGo team as an advisor, judged the AlphaGo match against Lee Sedol, and co-authored DeepMind's AlphaGo Zero paper published in Nature in October 2017.
