Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, who lived from 25 January 1942 to 5 January 2014, was a Portuguese footballer who played as a striker. Nicknamed the Black Panther, the Black Pearl and o Rei, he is considered one of the greatest players of all time and the best player in the history of Benfica, for whom he is the all time top scorer with 473 goals in 440 competitive matches. He was known for his speed, technique and right footed shot. He helped Portugal reach third place at the 1966 FIFA World Cup as the tournament's top scorer with nine goals, won the Ballon d'Or in 1965, and won eleven Primeira Liga titles and a European Cup with Benfica. He was the first player to win the European Golden Boot, in 1968, and won it again in 1973.
