Étienne Gailly (26 November 1922 to 3 November 1971) was a Belgian soldier and Olympic athlete who competed mainly in the marathon. He was born in Beringen and died in Genval, and his life lasted forty eight years. The marathon is the long distance road race of athletics, and it is the event with which the source associates his Olympic career, while his work as a soldier is recorded alongside his sporting life in the same opening sentence. This atlas files him under track and field disciplines for that marathon running.
