Djibril Cissé, born on 12 August 1981, is a French former professional footballer who played as a forward. He began at his boyhood club Arles-Avignon in 1989 and passed through the youth teams at Nîmes and Auxerre, reaching the Auxerre first team in 1998. After six seasons there, with 90 goals in 166 appearances, he moved to Liverpool in 2004, where he played 79 games, scored 24 goals and won the 2004-05 UEFA Champions League and the 2005-06 FA Cup. Later clubs included Panathinaikos, Lazio, Al-Gharafa, Kuban Krasnodar, Yverdon Sport, Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers, Marseille and Bastia, and he ended his career in 2015 with one appearance for Saint-Pierroise on Réunion. He broke his left leg in 2004 and his right leg in 2006. For France he played at the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cups and was in the squad that won the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.
