Dirk Nowitzki is a German former professional basketball player born June 19, 1978, in Wurzburg, who spent his entire 21 season NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks, one of the longest tenures with a single team in league history. He led the Mavericks to their first NBA championship in 2011, winning the Finals Most Valuable Player award, and won the regular season Most Valuable Player award in 2007. Standing over seven feet tall with an unusually versatile perimeter shooting game for a player his size, he is widely credited as a pioneer of the modern stretch-four style of play and is regarded as one of the greatest international players in NBA history, elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
