Ding Liren is a Chinese chess grandmaster born in 1992 in Wenzhou who was the 17th World Chess Champion, holding the title from 2023 to 2024 as the first Chinese player to do so. He reached a peak classical rating of 2816 in November 2018 and a world ranking of number two in November 2021, and maintained a 100 game unbeaten streak in classical chess from August 2017 to November 2018, the longest in top level chess history at the time. He won the 2023 World Championship against Ian Nepomniachtchi in rapid tiebreaks after their classical match ended tied, and lost the title in 2024 to Gukesh Dommaraju. He is a three time Chinese Chess Champion and won team gold at the 2014 and 2018 Chess Olympiads.
