Derek McGrath (hurler)

Hockey Codes

Derek McGrath is an Irish retired hurler, born in Waterford in May 1976, who played as a centre-forward for the Waterford senior team and is a former manager of the Waterford senior team. He arrived on the inter-county scene at sixteen with the Waterford minor team, later lined out with the under-21 side, joined the senior panel for the 1996 championship and left inter-county hurling after the 1998 championship, having been a seldom used player. At club level he is a Munster medallist with De La Salle, and he also won one county championship medal. In retirement he moved into team management and coaching, guiding De La Salle College to Harty Cup and Croke Cup successes, and he is identified here as the hurler to tell him apart from other people of the same name.
