David Rudisha

David Lekuta Rudisha, born on 17 December 1988, is a retired Kenyan middle-distance runner who is the world and Olympic record holder in the 800 metres. He won gold medals in the 800 m at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympic Games, setting the current world record of 1:40.91 at the former. He is also a two-time World champion, in 2011 and 2015, and a two-time Diamond League champion. Rudisha is the first and only person to run 800 m under 1:41 and holds the three fastest times ever in the event. He began his running career at St. Francis Kimuron High School in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, and he won the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award in 2010. In 2022 he announced a run for election in Kenya as an independent candidate.
