David Robinson

Court and Net Team Sports

David Robinson, born on August 6, 1965, is an American former professional basketball player who spent his entire fourteen-year career with the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association. He is nicknamed the Admiral because of his service in the United States Navy, and after his playing days he became a minority owner of the Spurs. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest centers in college and professional basketball history. He played for the United States Naval Academy and was taken first overall in the 1987 draft, but his active-duty Navy obligation delayed his first game until 1989. His honors include two NBA championships, the 1995 Most Valuable Player award, the 1992 Defensive Player of the Year award, ten All-Star selections, two Olympic gold medals and two Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductions.
