Dan O'Keeffe, known as Danno, was an Irish Gaelic footballer who died on 2 June 1967 and is regarded by some as the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the sport. His family moved to Tralee in County Kerry when he was nine, and he started on a junior team called the Rangers before joining Kerins O'Rahilly's, with whom he won two county championships. He made his first inter-county appearance on the Kerry junior team that won the All-Ireland Junior Championship in 1930 and a year later, as the substitute goalkeeper on the Kerry senior team, was told a few hours before the final against Kildare that he would be playing, collecting his first winners' medal. He was first-choice goalkeeper for seventeen years, claimed a then record of seven All-Ireland titles and a record 14 Munster medals, and also won two National League titles and three Railway Cup medals with Munster. He played until he was 41 and was posthumously named on the Football Team of the Century and the Football Team of the Millennium. He worked for Kerry County Council in Tralee.
