Dale Earnhardt was an American stock car racing driver who won seven NASCAR Winston Cup Series championships, a total matched by only one other driver in the sport's history. Nicknamed The Intimidator for his aggressive driving style, he won 76 career Cup Series races including the 1998 Daytona 500 after 19 previous attempts. He was killed in a crash on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, a death that led to major safety reforms across the sport of stock car racing.
