Pro Bowl

Bilateral and Challenge Series

The Pro Bowl was the National Football League's annual all-star event, known as the NFL All-Star Game from 1939 to 1942, the Pro Bowl from 1951 to 2022 and the Pro Bowl Games from 2023 to 2026. The first official Pro Bowl was played in January 1951, and from the 1970 merger with the American Football League the game generally matched the American Football Conference against the National Football Conference. From 2014 to 2016 captains chose the teams in a televised draft, and in 2023 the game became a non-contact flag football contest. The event was criticised for low intensity and weak ratings, yet selection remained a mark of honour. The NFL ended the Pro Bowl games in 2026 after 88 years and replaced them with an honor class of 88 players.
