FAQs

How does Nicklas Lidström's seven Norris Trophies compare with other defencemen?

Seven Norris Trophies, matched only by Doug Harvey and exceeded only by Bobby Orr's eight.

Lidström won the James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded to the NHL's top defenceman, seven times. Only one other player, Doug Harvey, has matched that total, and only Bobby Orr has exceeded it, with eight wins. Lidström was also nominated for the Norris twelve times in his last fourteen seasons, and in 2001, 2002 and 2003 he won three in a row, the first defenceman to do so since Orr.

How long was Nicklas Lidström's playoff streak with the Detroit Red Wings?

Twenty consecutive playoff seasons, an NHL record shared with Larry Robinson.

Lidström played in the playoffs for 20 consecutive seasons, skipping only the cancelled 2004-05 lockout year, an NHL record that he shares with Larry Robinson. The Detroit Red Wings never missed the playoffs during his 20-year career with the club.
