What happened in the 1976 title decider after Niki Lauda returned from his crash?
Lauda retired from the rain-soaked Japanese finale and James Hunt took the 1976 title.
Lauda was back in a Formula One car about a month after the crash and finished fourth in the Italian Grand Prix. His rival James Hunt had closed the championship gap to three points before the final race in Japan. It rained heavily at the Fuji circuit, Lauda judged that racing was folly and retired early, and Hunt won the world championship.
