Was Mijaín López the favorite going into the 2024 Paris Olympic final?
He entered Paris 2024 unseeded and met the reigning World champion in the quarter-final.
No. Olympedia notes that he had not appeared in major international events in recent years and entered the Paris Olympics as an unseeded wrestler, so he met the favorite and reigning World champion, Iran's Amin Mirzazadeh, as early as the quarter-final stage. His final opponent was Chile's Yasmani Acosta, who was not considered a potential medal winner. Olympedia also records that at Tokyo he became the first wrestler to win four consecutive Olympic gold medals in the same division.
