Christine Ohuruogu, born Christine Ijeoma Ohuruogu on 17 May 1984, is a British former track and field athlete who specialised in the 400 metres. She was Olympic champion in 2008, silver medallist in 2012 and a two-time World Champion over 400 metres, in 2007 and 2013, and she also won Commonwealth gold. In the women's relay she collected bronze medals at the 2008 and 2016 Olympic Games and six World Championship medals as part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. Her personal best of 49.41 seconds, set at the 2013 World Championships, broke the long-standing UK record. She shares with Merlene Ottey and Usain Bolt the record for medalling at nine successive global championships between 2005 and 2016. Coached by Lloyd Cowan, she was known for strength endurance and a strong finish in the final straight. She retired in 2017, planned a second career in law, and in 2022 mentored Matthew Hudson-Smith to a British 400 metre record.
