Chris Kaman, born Christopher Zane Kaman on April 28, 1982, is a German-American former professional basketball player. He stands 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m) and played the center position, the role built around size near the basket. After a college basketball career at Central Michigan University he was selected sixth overall in the first round of the 2003 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, which made him a high lottery pick and marked the start of his professional career in the National Basketball Association. His dual German and American identity is stated plainly in the opening line of his encyclopedia entry, and he is remembered in the sport as a seven-foot center who moved from the college game into the top professional league.
