Charles Henry Goren was an American bridge player and writer who lived from 1901 to 1991, known as Mr Bridge and the leading American bridge personality of the 1950s and 1960s. He won the Bermuda Bowl world championship in 1950, the Vanderbilt championship in 1944 and 1945, and the Spingold teams championship in 1947 and 1960, and was inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 1964. He popularized the point-count method of bidding, still the foundation of most bridge bidding systems, and his books, including Contract Bridge Complete, sold millions of copies while his newspaper column ran in 194 American papers by 1958.
