Carel Godin de Beaufort

Carel Godin de Beaufort was a Dutch racing driver and nobleman, born on 10 April 1934, who competed in Formula One from 1958 to 1964. A gentleman driver, he entered 31 World Championship Grands Prix, often in an orange Porsche 718 run by his own Ecurie Maarsbergen team, and was one of the last amateur drivers in the series. In 1962 he scored his first points with sixth places at the Dutch and French Grands Prix, becoming the first Dutch driver to score points in Formula One. He also raced at Le Mans, winning his class in 1957. He suffered fatal head injuries in practice for the 1964 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring and died on 2 August 1964.
