Buakaw Banchamek, born Sombat Banchamek on May 8, 1982, in Surin Province, is a Thai Muay Thai and kickboxing fighter regarded as one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters of all time. He won the K-1 World MAX tournament twice, in 2004 and 2006, becoming the first fighter to win the title twice, and captured multiple Omnoi Stadium featherweight and lightweight championships along with the 2002 Toyota Marathon tournament at 140 pounds. He went on to win the Shoot Boxing S-Cup in 2010 and the Thai Fight tournament championship in both 2011 and 2012, and his international success through K-1 made him a household name in Thailand and abroad; in 2023 he set a Guinness World Record for leading the largest Wai Kru performance, the ritual dance performed before a Muay Thai bout.
