Brian Cody is an Irish hurler and hurling manager, born in 1954 in Sheestown, County Kilkenny, and a retired primary school principal. As a player he came through St Kieran's College, where he captained the side that won the 1971 Leinster and All-Ireland colleges titles, and then the James Stephens club, with which he won two All-Ireland club championships. He played for Kilkenny and was appointed captain of the county team in 1982. He is far better known as a manager. Appointed to the Kilkenny senior job in November 1998, he held it until the end of the 2022 season, the longest spell in the county's history, and led the team to eleven All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship titles, including four in a row between 2006 and 2009, together with seventeen Leinster titles, ten National Hurling League titles and seven Walsh Cups. The article describes him as widely regarded as the greatest manager in the history of the game.
