Brett Smitheram is a British professional Scrabble player from Camborne, Cornwall, who won the World Scrabble Championship in 2016, defeating Mark Nyman three games to none in a final that featured his 176-point play of the word BRACONID. He has also won the UK National Championship twice, in 2000 and 2022, the British Matchplay Scrabble Championship four times, and the Northern Ireland Championship three times, and has been ranked among the world's top five players and the United Kingdom's number one. Early in his career he won six consecutive episodes of the game show Countdown in 1997, qualifying for that program's Series 37 finals.
