Biniam Girmay is an Eritrean professional road cyclist born April 2, 2000, who has become one of the most significant breakthrough figures in the history of African cycling. At the 2022 Giro d'Italia he became the first Black African cyclist to win a Grand Tour stage, and in 2024 he won three stages of the Tour de France plus the points classification green jersey, the first African rider ever to do so. He was also the first Black African cyclist to win a monument classic, taking Gent-Wevelgem in 2022, and rose through the World Cycling Centre development program in Switzerland before turning professional in Europe.
