Austin Gleeson

Austin Gleeson is an Irish hurler, born in June 1995, who plays club hurling for Mount Sion in the Waterford Senior Championship and previously played at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a centre-forward but can also be deployed as a centre-back. He is one of only two hurlers to have won both young hurler of the year and hurler of the year in the same year, which he did at the age of 21 in 2016. He first came to prominence with De La Salle College, playing in every grade and in several Harty Cup campaigns, before joining the senior hurling team at the Waterford Institute of Technology. With Waterford he won the National Hurling League in 2015, the All-Ireland Under-21 title in 2016 and the All-Ireland Minor title in 2013. He is the younger brother of Jessica Gleeson, the Republic of Ireland women's national team soccer player.
