Aslı Çakır Alptekin

Track and Field Disciplines

Aslı Çakır Alptekin is a Turkish middle and long distance runner from Antalya, born on 20 August 1985, who represented Turkey at two Olympic Games. She competed for the club Üsküdar BSK in Istanbul. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing she ran the 3,000 metres steeplechase and was eliminated in the first round, placing fourteenth in her heat, and her steeplechase personal best of 9:36.01 was set the following year, in 2009. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London she switched to the 1,500 metres, but her result there is recorded as a disqualification. The Olympic record lists her among the athletes affected by doping irregularities at the Games, noting that all of her results from 2010 to 2013 were retroactively stripped because of irregularities in her Athlete Biological Passport. Her career is therefore remembered both for reaching the Olympics twice and for the sanction that removed her results from the record books.
