Ashton Eaton

Track and Field Disciplines

Ashton Eaton is a retired American decathlete, born on 21 January 1988, who won the Olympic decathlon in both 2012 and 2016. He held the world record in the decathlon and in the indoor heptathlon, and became the second decathlete after Roman Sebrle to pass 9,000 points, scoring 9,039 and then improving to 9,045 on 29 August 2015, a mark that remains the only time anyone has passed 9,000 twice. Frenchman Kevin Mayer broke the record in 2018. At the University of Oregon Eaton was a five-time NCAA champion and won The Bowerman award in 2010, and he later competed for the Oregon Track Club Elite. His first international medal was silver in the decathlon at the 2011 World Championships, and he is only the third Olympian after Bob Mathias and Daley Thompson to win back-to-back decathlon golds.
