Andrés Mazali was a Uruguayan footballer, nicknamed El Buzo, who won two Olympic gold medals with the Uruguay national team. He was born in Montevideo on 22 July 1902 and played for the club Nacional of Montevideo. He was a member of the Uruguayan squad that won the football tournament at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris and again at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, which makes him one of the footballers who successfully defended their Olympic title in back-to-back Games. He also competed in athletics, and he is recorded as a South American champion over 400 metres hurdles in 1920. His name is sometimes spelled Andrés Mazzali in other records. Mazali died on 30 October 1975, at the age of seventy-three, leaving a place among the players of the Uruguayan side that dominated the early Olympic football tournaments.
