Andre Dawson

Bat-and-Ball Sports

Andre Nolan Dawson, born July 10, 1954 and nicknamed the Hawk and Awesome Dawson, is an American former professional baseball outfielder who played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball, spending most of his career with the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs. He was an eight-time National League All-Star, the 1977 Rookie of the Year and the 1987 Most Valuable Player after leading the league with 49 home runs and 137 runs batted in. He won eight Gold Glove Awards, and he is one of eight major leaguers with at least 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases. Knee problems made worse by the artificial surface at Olympic Stadium moved him from center field to right field and then to a team that played on grass. He was known for his work ethic and for charting pitchers from the dugout, and he set many Expos franchise records. Dawson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.
